Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is convinced that Adoption of the Law on Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine (re Guarantee of Immunity of certain Officials) will restore Public Confidence in the Authorities
"I am convinced that The Verkhovna Rada shall abolish the special status granted to seven thousand persons in Ukraine", - stated V.Lytvyn, commenting upon the Parliament´s resolution to forward the said Bill for scrutiny at the Constitutional Court.
"I believe it is a right decision. The Verkhovna Rada had to make this moral and political choice, - stressed the Head of the Parliament. The moral aspect is obvious. The political one relates to the start of the presidential campaign".
"The Constitutional Court will apparently make a positive conclusion. The Verkhovna Rada shall have enough political responsibility to adopt the Bill in its entirety, not making it a distracting election maneuver", - stated the Head of the Parliament. He also stated: "There is no single person in the country who supports preservation of immunity of all the representatives of the ruling class".
V.Lytvyn believes that the necessity of restricting the immunity of high-ranking officials is definite. "Otherwise, the public confidence in the authorities will not be restored", - he stated.
